The first big hill

56.4km
1320.3m
890.1m

Today we'll go up. We start by descending 700m, from Limatambo to the river at the bottom of the valley, before climbing more than 2300m. For the first time since the beginning of the trip we won't be able to finish this hill today, we'll finish tomorrow.

Since Limatambo the climate is warm and the vegetation almost tropical. We meet papayers, mango trees, avocados, banana trees and all kinds of flowers. But there are also small voracious little gnats that bite us to the blood, but the worst is the itching a few hours after the bite, it's worse than mosquitoes.

After 7km of descent, we pass the 8000km from Ushuaia, we celebrate it with a selfie. Just after we meet a dog with all her puppies, Floriane cann't help but stop to go pet them. They are cute, but in a year they will run after us barking like most dogs here. François has become the number one enemy of dogs, he screams, rushes at them, brandishing his pump, and it works, they end up being scared and stop.

The descent unfortunately goes very fast, even with the selfie stop and the puppy break. We start the climb in the middle of a beautiful landscape. The water of the river and blue, the rock of the mountains sometimes white and the sun shines over our heads. Moreover we get our shorts out, which hasn't happen since the jungle in Bolivia. The morning is going well, the slope isn't too steep. In the late morning we decide to push a little to get to the village of Curahuasi to lucnh. We are tired at the end but are rewarded with a very good meal. We resume our climb after a short ice cream break.

In the late afternoon we are looking for a place to sleep before having to force too much. We ask the owner of a brand new restaurant if we can sleep in the restaurant, or in the meadow behind. The nice lady welcomes us with a broad smile and offers us to sleep in a room under construction without door nor window but with electricity. We even have a hot shower against a few coins, perfect.
